چکیده

RESEARCH DESIGN ANDMETHODSdSixty-seven patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) underwent angioscopic observation of multiple main-trunk coronary arteries. According to the American Diabetes Association guidelines, patients were divided into nondiabetic (n = 16), prediabetic (n = 28), and diabetic (n = 23) groups. Plaque color grade was defined as 1 (light yellow), 2 (yellow), or 3 (intense yellow) based on angioscopic findings. The number of yellow plaques (NYPs) per vessel and maximum yellow grade (MYG) were compared among the groups.

Impact of Prediabetic Status on Coronary Atherosclerosis

OBJECTIVE To determine if prediabetes is associated with atherosclerosis of coronary arteries, we evaluated the degree of coronary atherosclerosis in nondiabetic, prediabetic, and diabetic patients by using coronary angioscopy to identify plaque vulnerability based on yellow color intensity. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Sixty-seven patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) underwent angiosco...

Importance of considering atherosclerosis progression when choosing a coronary revascularization strategy: the diabetes-percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty dilemma.

The choice of which coronary revascularization strategy is best for diabetic patients with multivessel coronary disease has always been complex. The presence of diabetes, especially insulin-requiring diabetes, has been associated with higher rates of acute and late-term adverse events for both PTCA1 and bypass surgery,2 making either approach seemingly suboptimal. The results of the Bypass Angi...

Advances in Angioscopic Imaging of Vascular Disease

Percutaneous angioscopy, using high resolution fiberoptic imaging, allows direct and two-dimensional visualization of the vascular interior, thereby enabling macroscopic pathological diagnosis. Percutaneous angioscopy has revealed that the vascular luminal surface exhibits various colors and morphologies characteristic of different vascular diseases. This imaging technique is used for evaluatio...

A study of iron status in patients with coronary atherosclerosis

Background: It has been demonstrated that free oxygen radicals have a close interaction with lipid peroxidation, causing a modification of low-density lipoproteins (LDL) and facilitating LDL deposition, with the consequent formation of atherosclerosis plaques. Free radical production is catalyzed and accelerated in the presence of iron. This study was conducted to evaluate the possible associ...

Morphopathological study of effect of Licorice root extract on atherosclerosis process in coronary artery of male fed rabbit

Coronary artery disease due to atherosclerosis is one of the highest killers today. Cholesterol level reduction by diet or medication would lead to either halting, or decreasing atherosclerosis. We examined whether Licorice root extract can halt atherosclerosis. Fifty male rabbits randomly were divided in five groups. They had gone under normal and high cholesterol (HC) diet for six weeks. One ...
